ART IN VINSOBRES
Jane offers half day sessions and one week holidays of fun and surprises, including the chance to print, using her press and screen-printing equipment. Drawing and painting underpin her teaching in other media but, she has developed her own, unique style of making art a lot of fun. People lose their fear of failure by engaging in group projects where inhibitions cannot survive. Jane's courses are available on request throughout the year. Jane is also offering fun art days during the Summer holidays primarily for children and young adults..lots of different materiels, techniques and approaches to art. Please contact Jane for further information.
SEEING IT LIKE VAN GOGH......Spend a few days with us exploring this beautiful region .No instruction is provided but we can help provide art materiels at cost. The aim is to take clients to places where you can capture the essence of what Van Gogh produced in his paintings..the colours, windswept dramatic scenery, olive groves, lavender fields, spring blossom, autumn leaves and ancient hilltop villages. This is so designed that we allow plenty of time to paint, sketch and photograph all this. Each day we discuss and plan the day based on the season of course. Usually the mornings are spent outdoors with picnics provided either away or here at home. After lunch time to relax, continue painting , swim in the pool or stroll through the village..up to you. We provide 2 evening meals and take you to local restaurants for the other evenings. The cost is E95 per day and this includes accommodation*, breakfasts, some picnics, all local transport, collection and return from Orange Rail Station. In addition we drive to St Remy de Provence to visit the sanatorium , the Mauselee, where Van Gogh spent a year completing 100 paintings.Sit in the gardens , paint or photograph exactly where he painted .Also visit the town. This is an all day visit.* Please note there are additional charges for single occupancy , please contact us. Dates for 2020 ..All dates from April until October are available on request .
'PLAYING AT ART'
Jane Henriques is a printmaker/artist with a BA(Hons) degree in Drawing and Applied Art from the University of the West of England and a post-graduate diploma in life drawing from the University of Barcelona. Her re-entry into higher education followed a career as an academic, photo-journalist and film maker. All this put firmly behind her she now has fun with art. Having lived previously in Ceret on the side of the Pyrenees, where she offered "Playing at Art" sessions with both adults and children in her studio, Atelier la Poule Bottee ( " Chick in Boots - see her Facebook page ) she and her Chicken have now relocated, along with Patrick Heffron to Vinsobres in the Drome Provencal to a beautiful updated 17th Century house with glorious views .
Jane's style of teaching, while playful, has serious intent - to liberate the creative spirit which she believes can be trapped in both those who consider themselves to be artists and those who do not. Above all she aims to make it enjoyable and sociable, while encouraging careful observation and experimentation with different media, both classical and absurd. Pencils, brushes and soldering irons may be the appropriate tools, paper, fabric and camping mattresses the perfect supports.
Included in the programme will be visits, guided by Patrick and Jane to St Remy de Provence, to enter Van Gogh's world and Les Baux, where each year there are new and exquisite art 'experiences' in the magnificent ancient stone quarries, a sound and light show of some magnitude. We can also offer visits to vineyards, olive mills, lavender distilleries, truffle farms and our local herb expert where there will always be opportunities to sketch and paint the environment. For a small extra charge the opportunity is available to visit the Luberon and the famous villages of Gordes and Roussillon, the latter being a particular favourite of Patrick's. PLEASE note for partners who would prefer some walking or biking at times in the week Patrick will arrange that.
ART and the ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE.
"As artists we can become totally absorbed in what we are doing," says Deborah Cranston, an Alexander teacher of some 20 years' experience. "A session at the easle or bending over a work bench can leave us feeling stiff or with aching back or neck. I enjoy working with artists to help them become more aware of how they are using their bodies. The Alexander Technique teaches us to recognise the tensions we create unconsciously while working. It is these that cause us problems, rather than the activities themselves. 'Alexander' is a gentle, effective process which helps us to free ourselves from bad habits and holding patterns that have become part of our everyday movements and actions."
Deborah is offering a week long holiday this year starting on the 18th April. this year. Full details are available a little later on.
PRICE...E550 for a week, 7 nights on B and B basis with 3 evening meals and 5 picnics included. Transfers from Orange, all local transport, visits where described in the programme. Not included are some art materials which Jane will explain to prospective clients. Please note that there is an additional charge for the Alexander Technique sessions run by Deborah, a highly qualified and experienced tutor. Friday..An early start today as there is a lot to see in St Remy de Provence and Les Baux de Provence. The drive takes about 1hr30 but it is well worth it. First a visit to the Mausole hospital where Van Gogh spent a troubled year and completed 100 paintings. From the entrance a shaded path with copies of his work to left and right set among flowers and bushes superbly leads to a very moving statue of the man.
From there entry is made first to the church and then the main building via cloisters. From the shop stairs lead to his bedroom , recontructed, and the site of the electric shock treatment he had..Outside a most lovely garden, particularly in june and early July , with lavender in bloom, again provides great views of the building itself. Time to stroll in the outer garden area and see exactly where and what he painted...
Lunch in St Remy itself in a quite famous restaurant which we will subsidise to a degree. Then it's on to Les Baux in about 15 minutes drive . Avoiding the crowds we drive straight to the site of the Cathedral des Images for the most amazing light and sound ' show'...Each year a different artist or artists figure. Depart via a series of views over the valley to Les Baux and back to Vinsobres. Its been a long day so this evening we provide a light supper in the garden and a chance to discuss the week with Jane.
Saturday..Depart after breakfast for return destinations.
Bon Voyage and I hope that you have enjoyed your immersion in this varied part of Provence. Please note that if you arrange your onward travel for the late afternoon then there is plenty of time to enjoy Avignon. It normally starts at 2.30pm..We can arrange all this for you and add it to your bill.
