Airport . Drive to our hotel in Cassis allowing 1hr30
transfer time. Settle in then stroll along the harbour
for introductory talk plus aperitif. Supper in the hotel.

Day 2. Explore the Isles of Frioul
just off Marseille
harbour..We depart from the Old Port at the heart of old Marseille
by boat. The islands are steeped in history. The Count of Monte
Cristo is synonymous with the little Isle d'If. The walk takes about
5 hrs with just the odd rock step ..Time to explore the famous Canebiere
before the short drive back to Cassis.

Day 3. Morgiou and Sormiou
Walk . A short drive takes us to the fishing village of Sormiou in
the heart of the famous Calanques Sea Cliffs. The walk follows the
high path above the azure coloured sea to ancient fort of
Bormiou with its superb views along the coast towards Cassis. We
drop down to Bormiou for lunch and a beer in the village before
returning to Sormiou via a famous old smugglers path and then a
very beautiful wild flower covered hidden valley.A very photogenic
day with no real difficulty.5 to 6 hr walk .
Day 4. The Calanque de Devenson.
A 6 hr walk which leads into the most rugged and atmospheric section
of the Calanques. Some parts of the walk are delicate and exposed
and require sound footing and ease with exposure . The route leads
from the University by the GR 51 to the Col de Sugiton, the foot
of the Grande Candelle and then down to the Calanque itself . We
can also ascent the Candelle via a short rock step . . All
in all a fascinating day .The return is a path which closely follows
the sea cliffs .
| Day 5. A day off to explore fully Marseille
but we also provide a shorter walk to the Calanque de l'Escu
by the Fishermens' Balcony walk.We explore the area between
Marseille and Sormiou starting and finishing at the Col de Sormiou..4
to 5 hrs. |
 |
Day 6. The Calanque d'En Vau..A much
less demanding day technically than Day 5
but of great variety . The descent into the steep sided En
Vau Calanque is impressive and the setting most attractive ..We
start from Cassis and return via the Col de la Gineste ...5.30hrs
walk.

Day 7. Summit of Marseilleveyre,432m..This
circuit takes in the eastern part of the Calanques , close to Marseille
but set in a real wilderness of wild valleys and weird rock shapes.3
short passages of down scrambling form the only major difficulty. The
views are excellent and the walk one of the real classics of the
region ..4 to 5 hrs.
Day 8. Cap Canaille. From Cassis
to La Ciotat by the coast. This excellent ,exposed but not technically
difficult walk leads to the top of this famous Cape over
1200ft above sea level . The views are VERY spectacular both
